How it compares

Against Origami's wave papers: cone papers give you more clarity and more aromatic separation, and ask more of your pour. Wave papers give you a flat bed and a steadier cup with more sweetness and body. Against Hario V60 papers: interchangeable in this dripper — Cup 4 sits where an 02 does.

Origami

About the brand

Origami started in 2014 in Toki City, Gifu — a place that has been making pottery for roughly thirteen hundred years and had never particularly needed to make coffee gear. The brand's slogan is with BARISTA!, which reads like a translation artefact and turns out to be an accurate description of how the products get designed: with competition baristas, iteratively, until the thing works.

Around 90% of Origami's range is still made in Toki City as Mino-yaki porcelain. The dripper's twenty ribs are shaped after the kikyō — the bellflower, and Toki City's municipal flower — which is a pleasant story that also happens to be load-bearing engineering. The design as you see it now settled in 2016.

Then a World Brewers Cup champion used one in 2019 and the waiting lists started.
