Refund policy

Return & Refund Policy

Last updated: September 2026

This Return & Refund Policy explains your rights when you buy from Morning Glory Shop, trading as Morning Glory Coffee ("we", "us", "our"), through our webshop morningglorycoffee.shop. It is written to comply with the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU), the Sale of Goods Directive (EU) 2019/771 and Dutch consumer law (Books 6 and 7 of the Dutch Civil Code / Burgerlijk Wetboek).

This policy forms part of our Terms of Service and should be read together with our Shipping & Delivery Policy.

This policy applies to consumers (natural persons acting for purposes outside their trade, business or profession). If you are ordering as a business, section 9 applies to you.

1. Who we are

We are Morning Glory Shop, trading as Morning Glory Coffee.

Our registered address, KvK number, VAT number and telephone number are on our Company Details page. The address to send returns to is in section 5.

For anything relating to a return, a refund or a complaint, please contact us at support@morningglorycoffee.shop.

2. Your right of withdrawal (14-day "cooling-off" period)

As a consumer buying online in the EU, you have the right to withdraw from your purchase within 14 days without giving any reason, subject to the exceptions in section 3.

The 14-day period starts:

  • for goods, on the day after you (or a third party you nominated, other than the carrier) receive the goods;

  • where an order is delivered in several separate deliveries, on the day after you receive the last item;

  • for a subscription (regular delivery of goods over a period), on the day after you receive the first delivery.

How to withdraw

To exercise your right of withdrawal, tell us clearly within the 14-day period. You can:

  • request a withdrawal via your customer account;

  • email us at support@morningglorycoffee.shop with an unambiguous statement that you are withdrawing from your order.

To meet the deadline, it is enough that you send your communication about exercising the right of withdrawal before the 14-day period has expired. The burden of proof for correct and timely withdrawal is on you, so we recommend using email.

3. Exceptions — items that cannot be returned under the right of withdrawal

By law, the right of withdrawal does not apply to certain goods. In our shop this means in particular:

  • Coffee and other food/consumable products that have been unsealed after delivery, because they are sealed goods that are not suitable for return for reasons of health protection or hygiene, and their perishable nature. In practice:

    • Unopened, sealed coffee (bag/packaging seal intact) may be returned within the 14-day period.

    • Opened or unsealed coffee cannot be returned under the right of withdrawal.

  • Goods that are liable to deteriorate or expire rapidly.

  • Made-to-order or personalised items produced to your specifications (e.g. custom-engraved or personalised ceramics), if we offer these.

  • Gift cards / vouchers, once issued, where stated at purchase.

These exceptions do not affect your separate legal rights where an item is faulty, damaged or not as described — see section 6 — or your rights if a product is recalled for safety reasons, which are covered on our Product Safety page.

4. Condition of returned goods and your liability

During the cooling-off period you must handle the goods with care. You may inspect and handle the goods only as you would be allowed to in a physical shop (for example, checking that a grinder or ceramic item is what you ordered).

You are liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from handling beyond what is necessary to establish their nature, characteristics and functioning. We may deduct an amount for this from your refund. If we do, we will tell you what we deducted and why.

For non-perishable goods (e.g. equipment, brewing gear, ceramics, merchandise), please return them where possible in their original condition and packaging, with any accessories included.

5. Returning the goods and refunds

Returning the goods

If you withdraw, you must send the goods back to Nijverheidsweg 42, 2031 CP Haarlem (Netherlands) without undue delay and in any event within 14 days of the day you told us you were withdrawing. The deadline is met if you send the goods back before the 14-day period has expired.

You bear the direct cost of returning the goods. We recommend using a tracked/registered service, as you are responsible for the goods until we receive them.

Refunds

  • We will refund all payments received from you for the returned goods, including the standard (cheapest) delivery cost we charged. If you chose a more expensive delivery option than our cheapest standard delivery, we do not have to refund the extra cost.

  • We will make the refund within 14 days of the day we are informed of your decision to withdraw. However, we may withhold the refund until we have received the goods back, or until you have supplied proof that you have sent them back, whichever is earliest.

  • We will refund you using the same means of payment you used for the original transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise. In any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of the refund.

6. Faulty, damaged, wrong or non-conforming items (legal guarantee)

Separately from the right of withdrawal, you are entitled by law to goods that conform to the contract — they must match the description, be of the quality and have the characteristics you can reasonably expect.

If an item arrives damaged, faulty, past its best-before/expiry date, or is not what you ordered, please contact us at support@morningglorycoffee.shop as soon as reasonably possible, ideally within 14 days of delivery, with your order number and, where possible, photos. This includes coffee that arrives damaged, contaminated or defective — even if the bag has been opened.

Where an item does not conform, you are entitled, depending on the circumstances and the law, to repair, replacement, a price reduction, or a refund. Where a return is required because the item is faulty or not as described, we will cover the cost of return shipping and the return will not count against your right of withdrawal.

Where a defect appears within one year of delivery, it is presumed to have existed at delivery unless we can show otherwise. There is no fixed cut-off after which our responsibility ends: a product must last as long as you could reasonably expect for that type of product and price.

Lost or damaged in transit. Risk passes to you only when you take physical possession of the goods. If your parcel never arrives, or arrives damaged, that is our responsibility — see section 5 of our Shipping & Delivery Policy.

Nothing in this policy limits your statutory rights as a consumer under EU and Dutch law.

7. Subscriptions

We offer rolling subscriptions (no minimum term) and minimum-term subscriptions (a commitment to an agreed number of deliveries, for example three bi-weekly deliveries, at a better price). Both are charged before each delivery— we never ask you to pay for a whole subscription in advance.

When your 14 days start

For a subscription, the withdrawal period is set by law (art. 9(2)(b)(iii) Consumer Rights Directive / art. 6:230o lid 1 BW):

  • The 14 days start the day after you receive your first delivery — not when you place the order.

  • It is one 14-day period covering the whole subscription. Later deliveries do not start a new one.

What withdrawing does

  • It ends the entire subscription, including any minimum term. You cannot be held to a commitment you cancelled within those 14 days.

  • We will not charge you for any delivery we have not yet dispatched, and we will refund anything you have already paid for a delivery you will not receive.

  • Unsealed coffee cannot be returned, under the exception in section 3. If your first bag is still sealed you may return it and we will refund it, in line with section 5.

  • If you withdraw shortly before your next scheduled dispatch, please tell us as soon as you can so we can stop it. If we dispatch it anyway after receiving your withdrawal, you owe nothing for it and we will refund you.

After the 14 days

  • A rolling subscription can be cancelled at any time with no fee, effective for deliveries not yet dispatched. Please cancel at least 5 days before your next scheduled dispatch so we can stop it in time; a delivery already dispatched will be charged and sent as normal.

  • A minimum-term subscription runs for the agreed number of deliveries and then continues as a rolling subscription you can cancel at any time. It never renews into a new minimum term. You may end it early at no cost if we are in breach; if you end it early for your own reasons, we charge only the difference between the discounted price you paid and our standard price for the deliveries you have already received.

  • Cancelling is as easy as subscribing — from your account, or by emailing support@morningglorycoffee.shop. We will never require you to telephone us or write a letter.

The full subscription terms, including price changes, pausing and substitutions, are in section 10 of our Terms of Service.

8. How to make a complaint

We want you to be happy with your order. If something is wrong, please contact us first at support@morningglorycoffee.shop — we aim to acknowledge complaints within 2 business days and to resolve them within 14 days. If we need more time, we will let you know and give you an indication of when to expect an answer.

If we cannot resolve your complaint together, you can obtain free, independent advice from ACM ConsuWijzer, the information desk of the Dutch Authority for Consumers & Markets, at consuwijzer.nl. You may also bring the matter before a competent court in accordance with section 19 of our Terms of Service.

We are not currently a member of a trustmark scheme or a sectoral disputes committee (Geschillencommissie). If we join one, we will state it here.

9. Business (B2B) orders

The statutory consumer right of withdrawal in section 2 applies to consumers only. If you order in the course of a trade, business or profession, the 14-day cooling-off period does not apply, although the conformity rules in section 6 and any voluntary terms we state at checkout still apply. Section 18 of our Terms of Service sets out the other differences for business orders. Please contact support@morningglorycoffee.shop to discuss any issue with a business order.

Please note that our webshop has a B2C focus. If you are interested in becoming a wholesaler or in B2B pricing, please reach out to coffee@morningglorycoffee.nl.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The version in force at the time of your order applies to that order. The current version is always available on our website.
