Food information & Allergens

Last updated: September 2026

This page explains the food information we provide about our coffee, and where to find it.

Under Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers, a shop selling pre-packed food at a distance must make the mandatory food particulars available to you before you buy, and free of charge. This page, together with each product page, is how we do that.

Who is responsible for the coffee

The coffee we sell is roasted and packed by:

Morning Glory Coffee
Nijverheidsweg 42, 2013 CP Haarlem

They are the food business operator under art. 8 of Regulation 1169/2011, and their name and address appear on every bag. We, Morning Glory Shop trading as Morning Glory Coffee, are the seller — your contract is with us, and questions, complaints and returns come to support@morningglorycoffee.shop.

What you will find on every product page

Every coffee product page shows:

  • the legal name of the food (for example "roasted coffee beans" or "roasted ground coffee");
  • the list of ingredients;
  • any allergens present, highlighted — see section 3;
  • the net quantity (for example 250 g);
  • storage and conditions of use, and any special conditions after opening;
  • the name and address of the food business operator, in case this differs from Morning Glory Coffee (section 1);
  • the country of origin of the green coffee, where we state it; and
  • the roast date where the roastery provides one will be provided on the bag.

Date of minimum durability ("best before"). The law allows this to be provided with the goods rather than before purchase, because it changes from batch to batch. The best-before date is printed on your bag and is always at least 3 months away at the time we dispatch.

Nutrition declaration. Roasted coffee beans, ground coffee and coffee extracts are exempt from the mandatory nutrition declaration under Annex V of Regulation 1169/2011. Where a product is not exempt — a flavoured product, a drinking chocolate, a syrup or a snack — the full nutrition declaration is on its

Allergens

Our coffee is 100% coffee. Plain roasted coffee, whether whole bean or ground, contains no ingredients from the 14 allergen categories listed in Annex II of Regulation 1169/2011.

Where we sell anything other than plain coffee — a flavoured coffee, a chocolate, a syrup, a biscuit or a gift set containing one — the ingredients and any allergens are listed on that product page and highlighted in the ingredient list, exactly as they appear on the pack.

Cross-contact. Our roastery roasts and packs coffee only. No other foods are produced or handled on the premises, so the coffee is not exposed to any of the allergens listed in Annex II of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 during roasting or packing.

Precautionary statements such as "may contain" are voluntary under EU law. Producers use them where cross-contact cannot be ruled out. Because our roastery handles nothing but coffee, our plain coffees carry no such statement — and where a producer of any other product we sell does use one, it is printed on the pack and shown on that product's page.

If you have a food allergy or intolerance, please read the product page and the pack carefully before consuming, and contact us at support@morningglorycoffee.shop if anything is unclear. We would much rather answer a question than have you take a risk.

Caffeine

Roasted coffee naturally contains caffeine. As a guide, a 7 g dose of ground coffee yields roughly 80–100 mg of caffeine in a typical cup, varying with the coffee, the grind and the brewing method.

The European Food Safety Authority considers intakes of up to 400 mg of caffeine a day, and single doses up to 200 mg, unlikely to raise safety concerns for healthy adults. EFSA advises pregnant and breastfeeding women to keep total caffeine intake below 200 mg a day. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, sensitive to caffeine, or taking medication, please seek advice from your doctor or midwife.

Where we sell decaffeinated coffee, the decaffeination method is stated on the product page.

Storing and using your coffee

Store the sealed bag somewhere cool, dry and dark, away from strong smells.

Reseal the bag after each use and press out the air.

Do not refrigerate opened coffee — it absorbs moisture and odours.

Whole beans keep their character considerably longer than pre-ground coffee. Grind just before brewing where you can.

Once opened, we suggest using the coffee within 4 weeks for the best cup. This is a quality recommendation, not a safety limit — the best-before date on the bag is what governs.

If something is wrong with your coffee

If coffee arrives damaged, past its best-before date, contaminated or otherwise not as described, contact us at support@morningglorycoffee.shop with your order number and photos. This is a conformity issue and we will replace or refund it — see section 6 of our Return & Refund Policy. This applies even if the bag has already been opened.

If you believe there is a food safety problem — a foreign object, contamination, or illness after consumption — please tell us immediately and keep the packaging and any remaining coffee, as we will need the batch details. We will inform the roastery and, where required, the Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit (NVWA). You can also contact the NVWA directly at nvwa.nl.

Sustainability and sourcing

Coffee falls within the scope of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EU) 2023/1115. Its obligations apply from 30 December 2026 for downstream operators and traders, and from 30 June 2027 for micro-enterprises and natural persons.

As a downstream seller of coffee already placed on the EU market by our roastery, our obligations are to register in the EU information system and to keep records of our suppliers and buyers. We will publish our sourcing and due-diligence information here as those obligations take effect.
